This project involved the renovation of an early Edwardian redbrick home in Glasnevin. The house had beautiful original features — cornicing, tall sash windows and generous proportions — and my role was to work with that character rather than against it.
The focus from the outset was on getting the layout and flow right. Once that was resolved, I introduced warmth through layered materials and texture — velvets, patterned wallpapers and considered lighting — always keeping the overall feel balanced.
Several key pieces were designed and supplied by House Iconic, including bespoke sofas tailored to the scale of the rooms, a custom TV unit designed to sit comfortably within the architecture, an upholstered headboard made to soften the bedroom, and full-height curtains that frame the sash windows properly. These elements grounded the scheme and allowed everything to feel cohesive rather than pieced together.
Each space was approached with intention. The hallway carries more contrast and pattern, while the living areas are softer and more settled. The aim was depth without excess — detail that feels natural rather than decorative for the sake of it.
Velvet on Brick is a home that feels true to its era but fully suited to modern life — layered, calm and confident.
